The American Indian Tribes
The Plains Indians lived on lands that stretched from Texas to north of Canada. The Apache and Comanche lived in Texas and Oklahoma, the Cheyenne and the Arapaho lived in several area along the central plains, the Pawnee lived in Nebraska, and the Sioux lived in Minnesota to Montana. They had harsh conditions and survived off of buffalo and horses. They used horses for transportation and buffalo for food, clothing, and tools.
Treaties for American Indians
The Treaty of Fort Laramie was between the U.S. and the Northern Plains Nations. It was the first major agreement. the Treaty of Fort Atkinson was between the southern Plain Nations and 5he U.S. These treaties were alike because they allowed the U.S. to travel through indian homelands. Several years later, miners started to settle on indian homelands for major resources. They broke the treaties and created a new treaty which created reservation sites in unresourceful areas. It was hard for Native Americans to hunt because buffalo didn't exist it these areas. The Treaty at Medicine Lodge was from the U.S. government asking for the southern Plain Nations to move on reservations also. Many people didn't want to and fighting broke out between the Texans and Comanche. The Texans couldn't defeat Comanche so they cut off their food. They Comanche surrendered and were forced to move to a reservation site.
